Outer Tierods
Outer Tierods

What could happen if you don’t replace an outer tierod?
The outer tierods are bad on my mini van and it has a shake when we go down the street. Could something bad happen if I don’t fix it right away.
The most obvious thing you will notice is rapid tire wear. The toe adjustment on your steering will out of correct adjustment with a failed tie rod end. The toe can not be set to compensate for a failed tie rod end.
You might also notice excessive play in the steering wheel. And as one of the other answerers pointed out, it could eventually separate and cause a loss of control of the steering.
I would certainly replace it as quick as possible and have the front end re-aligned. You have to remember the cost might be a little high. But so are tires. And believe me you will go through a lot of tires driving with a bad tie rod end
