How hard is replacing a lower control arm on a chevy van?

Any special tools needed? Can a weekend-mechanic accomplish this with typical tools?

Lower control arm also needs new bushings, etc.

If not, what would be a reasonable price for a mechanic to replace it @ $85 per hour?

you need a floor jack 1 jack stand pair of wire cutters to pull the cotter pins out a three pound hammer and a good aim. after you get the tire off it will be on the jack stand do 1 side at a time, put the floor jack under the control arm near the spring jack it up till you just take the weight off the jack stand if it’s the left side turn the wheel all the way to the right take the cotter pin out of tie rod end and loosen the nut don’t take it off all the way then you use the hammer don’t hit the tie rod but the part it’s going thru right on the end hard and the tie rod will drop down to the nut take it off you do the same thing with the ball joint if you use a ball joint seperater it will waste the rubber that holds the grease same for the tie rod end so a big hammer works the best just don’t miss the reason you leave the nut on is incase you miss you won’t waste the threads. once the ball joint is loose you can take the nut off and let the jack down and take the bolts off if you are changing the lower control arm with a ball joint allready in it rent a ball joint seperater. you can pound out the bushing and pound new ones in. too bad one can’t put pictures on this site. enjoy
